German chemist, served as a technical advisor for the ceramic industry in Arita in 1870.

During his stay in Arita, he developed an economical new glaze and artificial cobalt pigments, and also conducted experiments for the construction of coal-fuelled kilns. His work greatly contributed to the modernization of Imari-Arita porcelain production.
