    鳥獣人物戯画は、全4巻からなる紙本墨画の絵巻物のこと。鳥獣戯画とも呼ばれる。京都市左京区の高山寺（こうさんじ）に伝わり、今から800年ほど前に製作されました。擬人化されたうさぎ、かえる、さるの姿がユーモラスに描かれていることで有名です。

    「ちょうじゅう」という言葉は、「鳥獣」の他に「長寿」という漢字にかけられるように、縁起のいい絵柄として有田焼のうつわにもよく見られます。
