What is Yachimun?

    "Yachimun" means "pottery" in the Okinawan dialect. Representative yachimun include Yomitanzan ware and Tsuboya ware. They are characterized by their generally warm, plump forms, and many pieces are adorned with vibrant Okinawan colors such as "Gosu (cobalt blue)," "Ame (amber)," "Kuro (black)," and "Midori (Augusuyā, green)." The charm of yachimun also lies in its folk art-like simplicity, seen in patterns such as finger-drawn designs, arabesques, and fish motifs.
