    JP: 大銀杏/おおいちょう

     

    Located in Izumiyama Benzaiten Shrine in Arita-town. This 40m high tree is about 1,000 years old and was designated a natural monument in 1926. 

    When a catastrophic fire (see 'Bunsei no Taika') broke out in Arita town in 1828, it is said that the fire went out just before it reached the foot of the tree.
