    JP: 李参平/りさんぺい

    A Korean potter, who was captured and brought back to Japan from Korea at the time of Japanese invasion of Korea by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.  His given Japanese name was Kanegae Sanbe. In 1616, he discovered good-quality claystone at Izumiyama in what is now Arita town. He founded Tengudani kiln there, and produced the first Japanese white porcelain, the origins of Arita-yaki (Arita ware). He is enshrined in Tozan shrine in Arita-town, as God of porcelain. His direct descendants still live in Arita town.
