Tōzan Shrine

This is a shrine located in Arita Town.

Although it is affectionately known in Arita as "Tozan Shrine," its official name is Sueyama Shrine. It was founded in 1658, during the early Edo period, with Emperor Ojin as the main deity, and Ri Sanpei, the ancestor of pottery, is also enshrined.

The highlights include the large torii gate made of porcelain, offered by Arita's master craftsmen in a competition of skill, as well as the porcelain guardian dogs, large lanterns, and large water jar. Inside the main shrine, there is also a porcelain taiko drum.

Porcelain charms, ema (votive tablets), and recently, Goshuincho (stamp books) are also popular. Many visitors come to see the local train running through the shrine grounds and the beautiful cherry blossom scenery.
