A dignified appearance and functional beauty. The Hasami ware "Korin Kiln" kikyo gourd-shaped small bowl, adding elegance to your dining table.
This is the "Fuchi Sabi Mikomi Suji Kikyo Gourd-shaped Small Bowl" from Korin Kiln, meticulously crafted in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture.
Though a petite 6.8cm, fitting in the palm of your hand, its overwhelming beauty and presence make it a charming masterpiece. The delicate brush-painted sometsuke lines on the inside of the bowl and the "sabi-maki" technique that tightens the rim create a dignified and elegant overall impression.
The design, combining a gourd-shaped waist reminiscent of a gourd and a "kikyo-buchi" rim that waves like flower petals, is not just beautiful. It’s easy to hold and fits smoothly in your hand, and it offers excellent stability when stacked, perfectly embodying the "beauty of use" (functional beauty) unique to Hasami ware.
Although it appears thin and delicate at first glance, the kikyo-buchi rim is finished robustly, making it not only suitable for everyday home use but also confidently recommended for professional use in restaurants where tough usage is required.
With a substantial depth of 5cm, it is ideal for elegantly serving vinegared dishes with liquid, rare delicacies, small appetizers, or accompaniments for drinks. Just a small serving of your usual meal in this small bowl will elevate your dining table to a higher level, like a fine Japanese restaurant.

A dignified appearance and reliable practicality. Hasami Ware, Korin Kiln "Kikyo-buchi Hirabachi Yorakumon (Sometsuke) 15cm"
A dish recommended with confidence by a tableware specialist, elevating your daily dining experience. From Korin Kiln, a Hasami ware producer in Nagasaki Prefecture, we introduce the "Yorakumon Hirabachi," combining traditional beauty with the robustness to suit modern lifestyles.
"Kikyo-buchi" to beautifully highlight ingredients
The rim of the dish is finished in "Kikyo-buchi," reminiscent of delicate bellflower petals. Its smooth curves give the entire dish a dignified and elegant impression, beautifully framing the food like a picture. Its refined form is perfect for entertaining, such as at kaiseki meals.
An auspicious traditional pattern, "Yorakumon"
Painted on the white porcelain is the "Yorakumon," a beloved pattern from ancient times. Originally an auspicious pattern derived from ornaments such as those for Buddhist statues (decorations made by weaving jewels and precious metals), it adds elegance to your dining table. The shading of the sometsuke (underglaze blue) complements Japanese cuisine perfectly.
The perfect size and "reliable sturdiness" for everyday use
With a diameter of 15cm and a height of 5.5cm, this "medium bowl" size is most frequently used for single servings of side dishes. It's ideal for simmered root vegetables like nikujaga, cold tofu, or agedashi tofu. Its ample depth allows you to safely serve dishes with liquid.
Furthermore, its reliable "thick body" is noteworthy. It is built to be extremely sturdy, making it perfect for casual daily use at home, and highly supported by restaurants (professional use) that require durability. It is also microwave and dishwasher safe, offering high practicality that suits modern life.

ARITA PORCELAIN LAB Shingo Oka Supervised Sometsuke Quadrilateral Small Plate 10.5cm [3 Patterns]
A versatile small plate, supervised by Shingo Oka, that adds color to your dining table
Excellent versatility and usability
This versatile small plate fits into any daily scene, whether for small side dishes, condiments, or sweets. It proposes a uniquely Japanese way to enjoy tableware, adorning your dining table with small plates.
A miraculous collaboration
The desire of ceramist Shingo Oka to have "more people use his pottery" is combined with the "high skill x stable production capacity" of a kiln with 200 years of traditional techniques. This is a very rare fully supervised product in the industry, where Mr. Oka himself thoroughly supervised everything from design, ceramic clay and glaze blending, to painting and glazing guidance.
Quality born from skilled craftsmanship
Despite being mass-produced, it is made through a painstaking process to maintain the warmth and high quality of artisan pieces.
- Forming (Pressure Casting): This technique involves injecting "slip (liquid clay)" under pressure into a specialized plaster mold with irregularities. It is mainly suitable for forming irregularly shaped vessels.
- Trimming (Shaping): After drying, craftsmen trim the piece to achieve its final shape. This is a crucial step requiring skilled techniques that affect the finish of porcelain.
- Bisque Firing: The pieces are slowly bisque fired in a 920-degree kiln for two days.
- Painting and Glazing: Under Mr. Oka's guidance, craftsmen hand-paint the underglaze. Afterward, Mr. Oka's specially blended glaze is applied using precise techniques as instructed.
- Main Firing: The pieces are slowly "reduction fired" at a high temperature of 1300 degrees for three days to completion.
"Free and dynamic sometsuke" of Early Imari
What is Early Imari?
It refers to Arita ware fired between 1616 and the 1650s, characterized by glazes that imitate the white porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty. Pieces from this era, about half a century before the completion period, often feature free and dynamic forms and painting, possessing warmth and deep flavor.
Reproduction by hand-painting
The beauty of the "free and dynamic sometsuke" characteristic of Early Imari has been beautifully reproduced in modern vessels by the hands of skilled craftsmen.
Ceramist Shingo Oka
A popular artist who creates pottery based on a unique "refined sensibility" that matches the contemporary atmosphere, while being mindful of masterpieces from older eras such as white porcelain (Joseon Dynasty) and sometsuke (Early Imari). He is known for his diverse expressiveness, including white porcelain, Karatsu, Oribe, aka-e, and classical patterns.
