This is the large size of the soba choko series from Risogama, a representative Arita ware kiln of today. It's a reproduction of an old Imari style soba choko, based on an antique that once existed. The design features a vibrant arabesque pattern in gold, dancing against a deep red background. The rim has a shihou-tasuki (interlocking diamonds) pattern, the base has lotus petals, and the unglazed footring on the bottom is a "janome kodai" (snake-eye footring) that was popular in old Imari ware.
