ALONGU Bowl (Small) 12.5cm

We named our brand "ALONGU" (明論具) in our quest for tableware that embodies the present state of Japanese cuisine, with its blend of diverse nationalities and regional characteristics, and hints at its future. By deliberately adding "U" to "ALONG," mimicking Japanese romanization, and combining it with the kanji "明論具," we express that while these vessels embrace today's diverse and multinational dining, they are also crafted in Japan.

The designer is Jin Kuramoto, a product designer known for creations such as HAY's "KNIT," arflex Japan's "JK," and audio-technica's wireless earphones. This is Kuramoto's first venture into tableware among his many product designs. The art direction is handled by graphic designer Rei Masaki. Born in New York and active in Tokyo since 2017, Masaki is a Japanese-American whose perspective allows the world of "ALONGU" to be expressed across borders and nationalities.

The ALONGU series challenges the image of porcelain products having a uniform finish. Instead, it is crafted with a focus on a wide range of finishes, including glazes, to allow you to enjoy the unique individuality and subtle variations in the material's character.

ALONGU Inspection Standards

While we only sell products that have passed the manufacturer's inspection, please be aware of the following product characteristics:

• "Yakishime" products are fired at high temperatures without glaze, so surface black spots and color variations may occur depending on weather conditions during firing. Also, if left unwashed for extended periods after use, oil stains may develop.
• The rim of "Fuchisabi" products is treated with an iron-based glaze, so color variations may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Seiji" products may have glaze pooling due to the application of glaze, and color variations may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Tenmoku" products use a delicate glaze created by crystalline components, so color variations may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• We actively use glazes with rich expressions, so products with small spots or unevenness are considered good quality.

Jozangama Hanagata Tokusa Rice Bowl (Large) 12cm

This rice bowl is neither too small nor too large, making it a convenient size for people of all ages. The rim of the bowl flares slightly outwards. The bold yet somewhat charming design features Tokusa (horsetail pattern) cut out in the shape of a flower. The antique-like aesthetic, reminiscent of traditional pieces, feels surprisingly fresh and is recommended for Japanese-style coordination. A slightly smaller size is also available.

Hanagata Tokusa Rice Bowl (Small) 11.5cm

This rice bowl is slightly smaller, making it an ideal size for women's rice bowls. The rim of the bowl flares out slightly. The bold yet charming design features a ten-grass pattern that looks as if it's been cut out in the shape of flowers. The old-fashioned, antique-like texture feels fresh and is recommended for Japanese-style coordination. A slightly larger size is also available.
