We named our brand "ALONGU" as we sought to explore the present state of Japanese cuisine, with its diverse national and regional influences, and to envision the future of Japanese tableware. By intentionally adding "U" to "ALONG" to evoke a Japanese romanization, and combining it with the kanji "明論具" (meirongu), we express that while these vessels embrace the diverse, cross-national nature of contemporary dining, they are unmistakably crafted in Japan.

The designer is Jin Kuramoto, a product designer known for his work on HAY's "KNIT," arflex Japan's "JK," and audio technica's wireless earphones, among other electronics. This is Mr. Kuramoto's first venture into tableware among his many product designs. The art direction is handled by graphic designer Rei Masaki. Having grown up in New York and been active in Tokyo since 2017, Mr. Masaki, a Japanese-American, brings a borderless, cross-national expression to the world of "ALONGU" through his unique perspective.

The ALONGU series challenges the perception of porcelain products having uniform finishes. Instead, it is crafted to allow you to enjoy the unique characteristics and subtle variations in the material's expression, intentionally pursuing a wide range of finishes, including glazes with rich expressive qualities.

About ALONGU Quality Control Standards

While we only sell products that have passed the manufacturer's inspection, please be aware of the following product characteristics:

• "Yakishime" products are unglazed and fired at high temperatures. Therefore, individual differences in black spots and color may occur on the surface depending on weather conditions during firing. Also, oil stains may appear if left for a long time after use.
• The rim of "Fuchisabi" products is treated with an iron-based glaze, and individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Seiji" products may have glaze pooling due to the glazing process, and individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Tenmoku" products use a delicate glaze created by crystalline components, and individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• Since glazes with rich expression are actively used, products with small dots or unevenness are considered good quality.
