Familiar yet new. The versatile small plate from Hasami ware's "Ai-Goma" series quietly enhances your dining landscape.
With its calm, slightly grayish base and five crisp indigo lines, the small plate from the "Ai-Goma" series by Wazangama, a Hasami ware producer, offers a strange sense of familiarity and comfort from the moment you hold it, as if you've been together for years. Its palm-sized diameter of 11cm and the smooth, sleek feel unique to porcelain. Whatever you place on it—condiments, pickles, or after-dinner sweets—it naturally becomes a picture, making it an indispensable supporting player for your daily dining table.
Comfortable 100g weight and smooth texture that fits your fingertips
Gently cradled in both hands, it feels light at approximately 100g, yet possesses a delicate weight that never feels cheap. The surface has a glossy finish, and when you run your finger over it, you feel the pleasant, smooth sensation characteristic of porcelain. The subtle differences in the hand-painted patterns, the faint iron spots (small black dots) that appear on the surface of the plate, and even the glaze drips all contribute to the joy of appreciating the "individuality of the ware," something mass-produced items lack.
Versatility that transforms everyday ingredients into a "feast," regardless of Japanese or Western style
The contrast between the calm grayish color and the sharp indigo border lines (komagumi) is truly a "frame" that enhances your dishes. It harmonizes wonderfully with not only Japanese ingredients like thinly sliced green onions and vibrant pickles, but also Western desserts such as macarons and bite-sized baked goods. You'll notice how even a small, everyday dish on this plate transforms into something elegant and refined.
Durable specifications unique to Hasami ware, made for everyday use
Hasami ware has long been cherished as "everyday tableware" that supports people's daily lives. The Ai-Goma series by Wazangama firmly inherits this spirit, boasting not only beauty but also high practicality directly linked to modern life. It's suitable for reheating in the microwave, and is also dishwasher and freezer safe. This durability, which allows you to use it frequently without worry while reducing the burden of daily chores, perfectly fits today's busy lifestyles. With a shallow design of 2.5cm, it's also practical for stacking neatly in the cupboard.
The Ai-Goma small plate from Wazangama is where rustic warmth and refined design intersect. It maintains the reliable quality of traditional Hasami ware while offering functionality that suits modern dining needs. Its quiet presence alone seems to subtly enhance the dining landscape. We confidently recommend this exquisite piece for everyday use in your home, as well as a thoughtful gift for someone special.

HASAMI PORCELAIN THE GREY COLLECTION is a collection made of grey porcelain. The exterior features a sharp, tactile grey finish right to the edge, while the interior is coated with glaze, giving it a smooth and glossy appearance. This creates a striking contrast in textures. The collection's shared diameter module and matte raw material texture harmonize and coexist with the original collection. About HASAMI PORCELAIN THE GREY COLLECTION Inspection Standards

- Un-glazed parts of the surface will become smoother to the touch over time.
- Components contained in the ceramic clay may appear as black or white spots after firing. Please note that both black and white spots are considered acceptable.
- Even within product series of the same diameter, some items may not stack perfectly due to subtle shrinkage or warping during firing.
- If you have any other concerns, please contact us.

ARITA PORCELAIN LAB Shingo Oka Supervised Sometsuke Quadrilateral Small Plate 10.5cm [3 Patterns]
A versatile small plate, supervised by Shingo Oka, that adds color to your dining table
Excellent versatility and usability
This versatile small plate fits into any daily scene, whether for small side dishes, condiments, or sweets. It proposes a uniquely Japanese way to enjoy tableware, adorning your dining table with small plates.
A miraculous collaboration
The desire of ceramist Shingo Oka to have "more people use his pottery" is combined with the "high skill x stable production capacity" of a kiln with 200 years of traditional techniques. This is a very rare fully supervised product in the industry, where Mr. Oka himself thoroughly supervised everything from design, ceramic clay and glaze blending, to painting and glazing guidance.
Quality born from skilled craftsmanship
Despite being mass-produced, it is made through a painstaking process to maintain the warmth and high quality of artisan pieces.
- Forming (Pressure Casting): This technique involves injecting "slip (liquid clay)" under pressure into a specialized plaster mold with irregularities. It is mainly suitable for forming irregularly shaped vessels.
- Trimming (Shaping): After drying, craftsmen trim the piece to achieve its final shape. This is a crucial step requiring skilled techniques that affect the finish of porcelain.
- Bisque Firing: The pieces are slowly bisque fired in a 920-degree kiln for two days.
- Painting and Glazing: Under Mr. Oka's guidance, craftsmen hand-paint the underglaze. Afterward, Mr. Oka's specially blended glaze is applied using precise techniques as instructed.
- Main Firing: The pieces are slowly "reduction fired" at a high temperature of 1300 degrees for three days to completion.
"Free and dynamic sometsuke" of Early Imari
What is Early Imari?
It refers to Arita ware fired between 1616 and the 1650s, characterized by glazes that imitate the white porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty. Pieces from this era, about half a century before the completion period, often feature free and dynamic forms and painting, possessing warmth and deep flavor.
Reproduction by hand-painting
The beauty of the "free and dynamic sometsuke" characteristic of Early Imari has been beautifully reproduced in modern vessels by the hands of skilled craftsmen.
Ceramist Shingo Oka
A popular artist who creates pottery based on a unique "refined sensibility" that matches the contemporary atmosphere, while being mindful of masterpieces from older eras such as white porcelain (Joseon Dynasty) and sometsuke (Early Imari). He is known for his diverse expressiveness, including white porcelain, Karatsu, Oribe, aka-e, and classical patterns.
