We named our brand "ALONGU" as we seek to create tableware that anticipates the future of Japanese cuisine, while embracing the current landscape where diverse nationalities and regionalities are intertwined. By intentionally adding "U" to "ALONG" to evoke Japanese romaji pronunciation, and combining it with the kanji characters "明論具," we express that while our tableware accommodates the diverse, international dining of today, it is also crafted in Japan.

The designer is Jin Kuramoto, a product designer known for HAY's "KNIT," arflex Japan's "JK," and home electronics such as Audio-Technica's wireless earphones. This marks his first foray into tableware among his numerous product designs. The art direction is handled by graphic designer Rei Masaki, a Japanese-American who grew up in New York and has been active in Tokyo since 2017. Through Masaki's perspective, the world of "ALONGU" is expressed in a borderless way, transcending nationalities.

The ALONGU series is crafted to redefine the image of porcelain products as having a uniform finish. To allow you to enjoy the unique characteristics and subtle variations of the materials, we intentionally pursue finishes like glazes that offer a wide range of expression.

About ALONGU's Inspection Standards

While we only sell products that have passed the manufacturer's inspection, please be aware of the following product characteristics:

• "Yakishime" products are fired at high temperatures without glaze, so there will be individual differences in surface black spots and color due to factors like weather conditions during firing. Additionally, oil stains may occur if left unattended for a long period after use.
• "Fuchisabi" rims are treated with iron-based glazes, and individual differences in color may occur due to factors like weather conditions during firing.
• "Seiji" may have glaze pooling due to the application of the glaze, and individual differences in color may occur due to factors like weather conditions during firing.
• "Tenmoku" uses a delicate glaze created by crystalline components, so individual differences in color may occur due to factors like weather conditions during firing.
• We actively use glazes with rich textures, so products with small spots or unevenness are considered good quality.
