The brand name "ALONGU" was chosen to reflect our desire to appreciate the current state of Japanese cuisine, which incorporates diverse nationalities and regional characteristics, and to explore tableware that foreshadows the future of Japanese cuisine. By intentionally adding "U" to "ALONG" to represent a Japanese Romanization, and combining it with the kanji "明論具", the brand expresses that it offers tableware that embraces the diverse contemporary dining scene where nationalities intersect, while also signifying that the pottery is made in Japan.

The designer is Jin Kuramoto, a product designer known for projects such as HAY's "KNIT," arflex Japan's "JK," and home appliances like audio-technica's wireless earphones. This is Kuramoto's first venture into tableware among his numerous product designs. The art direction is handled by graphic designer Rei Masaki. Growing up in New York and working in Tokyo since 2017, Masaki's perspective as a Japanese-American expresses the world of "ALONGU" as transnational and borderless.

The ALONGU series aims to revolutionize the perception of porcelain products as having uniform finishes. To allow customers to enjoy the unique individuality and subtle variations of the materials, the series is meticulously crafted with glazes and finishes that offer a wide range of expression.

About ALONGU's Inspection Standards

We only sell products that have passed the manufacturer's inspection. However, please be aware of the following product characteristics:

• "Yakishime" products are fired at high temperatures without glaze, so individual differences in black spots and color may occur on the surface depending on weather conditions during firing. Also, oil stains may appear if left for a long time after use.
• "Fuchisabi" products have an iron-based glaze applied to the rim, and individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Seiji" products may have glaze pooling due to the glazing process, and individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• "Tenmoku" products use a delicate glaze created by crystalline components, so individual differences in color may occur depending on weather conditions during firing.
• Because we actively use glazes with rich expressions, products with small dots or unevenness are considered good quality.
