Sometsuke Madori Karakusa Shaving Brush 13.4cm

"Tako Karakusa," a swirling vine pattern reminiscent of octopus suckers, is a design often seen on Ko-Imari ware from the Edo period. While the Tako Karakusa pattern evolved over time, designs with outlines filled in with a technique called "dami" were frequently created in the first half of the 18th century. This "Madori Karakusa" pattern balances the Tako Karakusa design with well-designed negative space. Additionally, Kishogama's unique warm, matte glaze is used, maximizing the aesthetic of Ko-Imari ware.

The handle is made by Kishogama, a kiln specializing in "recreating Ko-Imari." Among their notable works is "Usururi Soro," which reproduces the "phantom technique" of thin russet glaze. It recreates the pattern and texture of the "Sometsuke Shirasagizu Sankyaku-zara," which is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, in a new form.

The bristles were made by Chikuhodo, a world-renowned brush workshop. This luxurious shaving brush uses a greater quantity of bristles than usual. The bristle material is badger hair. When wet, the bristles soften, providing a smooth feel against the skin. Furthermore, badger hair has just the right amount of resilience, allowing for the creation of finer lather.

Please note that individual products may vary slightly in color, pattern, and weight. Also, some products may have small black dots (iron spots) on the surface of the vessel or glaze drips, but these do not indicate a quality issue.
