The delicate appearance and reassuring feel in your hand. The contrast is astonishing.
The main appeal of this small bowl is the mouthfeel of its "thin rim," as indicated in the product name. Compared to typical porcelain small bowls, the rim is finished to be extremely thin. When bringing dashi or soup to your mouth along with the food, you don't feel the thickness of the vessel, allowing the flavors and aromas of the dish itself to spread directly.
On the other hand, the body from the mid-section down to the foot retains a substantial yet appropriate thickness. The three-dimensional ridges and indentations of the "kikuwari" (chrysanthemum pattern) naturally catch your fingers, making it less slippery even with wet hands, and providing a comfortable sense of security as it fits snugly in your hand.
【Plating and Shadows】Professional Three-Dimensional Effect to Enhance Food
Not just a 'blue line'. The three-dimensional light and shadow of the chrysanthemum pattern shine under illumination.
We actually tested various dishes in the store. The "morning glory" shaped opening, with a depth of 6cm and a diameter of 10.8cm, creates the most beautiful balance for serving dishes like blanched spinach or simmered foods with a slight height in the center.
When illuminated from directly above or at an angle, the hand-painted blue染付 lines and the ridges and indentations of the chrysanthemum pattern intersect, creating a radial shadow effect that appears behind the food. This shadow effect elevates simple Japanese dishes like green vegetables (blanched greens, edamame), jellied white fish, or chilled tofu, making them appear as if they came from a high-end restaurant.
【Durability and Practicality】"Thin but Strong" Professional-Grade Toughness
Looks delicate, but is actually easy to use and can be washed vigorously in the dishwasher.
To address concerns like "Won't a thin rim chip easily?", we conducted washing and stacking tests in our store. While the rim is finished thinly, being a hard, vitrified porcelain unique to Arita ware, it possesses sufficient strength to withstand daily microwave use and continuous washing in a dishwasher. Furthermore, thanks to the smooth, high-quality gloss glaze, oil and dashi stains rinse off easily with water, and it dries exceptionally well. When stored, the footring securely interlocks, allowing several pieces to be stacked without wobbling, a space-saving design.

Arita ware is a general term for ceramics produced in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture, and its surrounding areas. In 1616, the potter Ri Sampei discovered white porcelain stone in what is now Arita Town and began producing porcelain for the first time in Japan. In the 1600s, porcelain made in Arita was exported overseas from Imari Port, leading to Arita ware also being known as "Imari ware" or simply "IMARI."
At our shop, we use different names depending on the place of origin: "Arita ware" for ceramics fired in the current Arita Town, "Imari ware" for those from Imari City, "Hasami ware" for those from Hasami Town, and "Hizen Yoshida ware" for those from Ureshino Town.
